Performance

Fine controls for frame pacing, latency, state thumbnails, and performance capture. These appear in the Advanced section of Settings.

Visible Options

FPS Limit

Automatic matches whatever speed the game itself runs at, which is right for almost everything. 50 Hz (PAL) suits games made for European televisions, and No Limit lets it run as fast as it can.

Frame Delay

Waits a fraction longer before reading your buttons each frame, so a press is picked up as late and as accurately as possible. Auto works this out for you.

Run Ahead

Quietly plays a moment ahead of what you can see, so your button presses take effect sooner than the game would normally allow. Only offered for games that support it, and it steps aside on its own during fast forward or slow motion.

GPU Hard Sync

Makes each frame wait until the previous one is completely finished, which evens out the pacing at the cost of a little speed.

State Thumbnail Size

Choose the image size used for save state previews. Smaller thumbnails use less storage and require less work when a state is captured.

Performance Capture

Records how the game is actually running while you play, so the figures can be looked at afterwards. It keeps track of the slow frames as well as the average, counts any frame the screen had to repeat, and times the individual pieces of work behind a frame. Turn it on, play for a moment, and the results are yours to export. Leave it off for normal play.

Quick Tips

  • Tap MENU on any row for a short explanation of what it does, and hold MENU to inspect the game picture.

  • Performance Capture is intended for diagnosis. Leave it disabled during ordinary play.
