Patches

Pickles applies softpatches (.ips, .bps and .ups files) as the game loads, so the original file is never changed. They work with every core, including zipped games, and there are two ways to set them up.

Same name: place a patch beside the game with the same name, without the game's extension, such as Super Metroid.ips next to Super Metroid.sfc. To stack more, number them Super Metroid1.bps, Super Metroid2.ips and so on. They are applied in order after the unnumbered patch, which must be present. Same name patches always apply and are not listed on this screen.

Own folder: place the game in a folder with exactly the same name as the file, extension included, such as SNES/Super Metroid.sfc/Super Metroid.sfc. Every other patch in that folder, whatever its name, is listed here so you can choose which ones to use. They are applied in alphabetical order after any same name patches, and your choices are remembered for that game.

This screen appears in the Pickles Menu when the game's own folder holds at least one patch, and is hidden while Netplay is active.

Patch

Each row is one patch from the game's own folder, all enabled to begin with. Press Left or Right to switch it between Enabled and Disabled.

Quick Tips

  • Patch changes only take effect after a restart, so a toast will remind you to use Restart from the Pickles Menu once you back out.

  • When a game loads with patches, a toast shows how many were applied, and the Information screen shows the same count under Active Patches.

  • The folder method keeps patches with the game they belong to. Patches loose in a shared folder are only used through the same name method, so they never apply to the wrong game.
