Installer

The very first screen on a brand new or freshly formatted device. It walks you through the handful of things worth sorting out before you go any further, then finishes the install.

Profiles and the Input Tester are here too, so you can make the interface comfortable to read and check every button works before committing to anything. You will only see all this once, right at first boot.

Visible Options

Date and Time

Set the date, time, and timezone before carrying on. Getting this right up front saves puzzling over odd timestamps on your saves and screenshots later.

Language

Choose the language you would like to use. You can always change your mind later from Configuration.

Profiles

Apply an accessibility profile for contrast, motion or text size before going any further, so everything is comfortable to read from the very start. A profile supplied with your device is already applied here.

Input Tester

Check that every button and stick on your device reports properly. A very good idea on a device fresh out of the box, while there is still time to do something about it.

Shutdown

Power down safely if you need to stop and come back to this later.

Install

Finish preparing MustardOS and restart into the frontend proper. You are first asked how the games card should be prepared, then to confirm. It takes a little while and should not be interrupted, and once it is done this screen will not appear again.

Quick Tips

  • When you choose Install you are asked how to prepare the games card. exFAT is the sensible answer for almost everyone and reads on any computer. FAT32 works everywhere but cannot hold a file larger than 4GB. EXT4 copes better with the console being switched off suddenly, but Windows cannot read it without extra software installed.

  • Only the formats this particular device is able to create are offered, so if one is missing from the list it is because the tooling for it is not present.
